Know who’s operating in your area.

Below the surface of the ground, several utility lines, including pipelines, exist and provide services for our everyday needs. To learn more about the pipelines in your area, consider looking at the National Pipeline Mapping System (NPMS). NPMS provides several links and resources, whereas Find Who’s Operating Pipelines in Your Area enables you to search for pipelines by state, county, or zip code.

Another way to identify pipelines is through marker signs. We all play a role in safety, and even if you learn where pipelines are located, this is a rough approximation.

When doing a project involving digging, always contact 811 so the pipeline and other underground utilities can be accurately located.
