Overview
Effective engagement programs will help stakeholders establish a baseline level of knowledge about a pipeline, system, or project, and provide them with an opportunity to have equitable, meaningful involvement in the engagement process.
Successful engagement programs require:
- An understanding of effective methods by stakeholder, community, or group
- A willingness to share information with stakeholders (within certain parameters)
- A willingness to “lean in” and actively listen to stakeholders when they’re providing feedback or sharing their concerns
- A willingness to act on stakeholder feedback or concerns and report back to them promptly and with transparency
- A process to manage, document, and respond to stakeholder inquiries, and
- A recognition that time spent to develop relationships with stakeholders, whether individual, communities, or groups, is time well spent.
